Ward 5 Town Councillor Marc Grant has attended the yearly ceremony since 2003. When he first learned of the number of workplace deaths, it “scared me. It freaked me out,” Grant said.
“Despite the fact that I’m still, every year, heartbroken by the numbers we have of people who have died on the job, I feel more hopeful every day that we have these people (Oakville MP John Oliver, Oakville North-Burlington MP Pam Damoff and Flynn) in our corner who are going to help us try to fight that number down,” said Grant.
